With so many professionals starting their own business or working in small and micro-sized businesses, a fundamental understanding of proper accounting principles is essential to any successful company. Starting with the basics, this course will take students through the fundamentals of business accounting, reading and understanding financial statements, actually preparing sophisticated financial statements and applying accounting principles to evaluate and/or optimize financial performance across businesses.

Accounting I takes students through the ins and outs of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the entire accounting cycle as well as bookkeeping basics from the importance of accurate data entry to sophisticated bank reconciliation methods, selected business transactions, balance sheets and more! This course provides an introduction to business accounting. Topics include accounting concepts and principles, financial statements, internal control design, and accounting for partnerships.
